Choosing a Construction Lot for Your New Custom Home

Deciding to build a custom home is a choice that many future homeowners are excited to make.

Deciding to build a custom home is a choice that many future homeowners are excited to make. Not only is it a great way to ensure that your home is in perfect condition when you move in, but you have complete control over your floor plan and more. One of the many aspects of your custom home you must consider is your lot. Where and how you place your home can have a significant effect on many different, including your privacy and how well your home gets natural light. With that in mind, today we’ll be walking you through a few of the options you should consider.

Choosing Where To Live

We all know that location is one of the essential parts of any potential home. Finding the perfect lot isn’t always easy. Consider if you’d like somewhere rural, in a subdivision, or even further into town.

Address Your Home Floor Plan

Depending on the way you want to have your home set up and the amount of natural light you want to receive, you should consider a few different things. For a large, single floor, and open floor plan home, you will need a larger lot than you would for a two-story house. Likewise, if you want to have plenty of natural light, your home will need to have windows on the southern side, which may affect the way you plan how it sits within the lot.

What Size Yard Do You Want?

If you have children or dogs, having a large yard can be a significant bonus, but this means you must consider how much space your home and driveway will take up as well as how much land will be left over. With additional yard comes additional maintenance needs, so make sure to consider the pros and cons accordingly.

Consider Privacy and Traffic

Different lot placements will have very different noise and privacy levels. If you’re someone who wants easy access to the street and neighbors, a corner lot may be a good option, but you’ll need to remember that there will be substantial noise from the road. If you want quiet and privacy, the back of a cul-de-sac or a more rural location may be better for you.
