Summer Guidelines for Landscape Maintenance Around Your Home

Taking care of your home’s landscape becomes even more important in the summer. As beautiful as your custom home is both inside and outside, it won’t be complete without a great-looking landscape.

Taking care of your home’s landscape becomes even more important in the summer. As beautiful as your custom home is both inside and outside, it won’t be complete without a great-looking landscape. That’s why you need to maintain it as carefully as possible. Here are some guidelines to follow.

Be Careful When Watering

First of all, be careful when you water your landscape. Water your plants less often, but do so more deeply. Try watering early in the morning or late at night so that the moisture you provide isn’t taken away by sunlight and heat. Under ideal conditions, your grass should get around one inch of water a week. Finally, switch to using drip irrigation instead of sprinklers and hoses to help prevent runoff, evaporation, or soil erosion.

Keep Grass Healthy

The grass around your custom home is an important part of how your landscape looks. This is why you want to keep your grass healthy. Aerating the grass and ensuring the soil pH is balanced is a good idea. Take the time to spread some fertilizer, and don’t hesitate to remove weeds as you see them since they take nutrients away from the rest of your garden.

Mow Smarter, Not Harder

Another tip we have for you is to mow smarter and not harder. Make this warm-weather chore easier on yourself! Don’t give in to the temptation of mowing your lawn as short as possible. While you might think that this reduces the amount of work you need to do,  you could end up harming the growth of the grass. Mowing properly will help your landscape thrive.

Pay Attention to Plants Elsewhere

Be sure to pay attention to the plants that are on your deck and patio. These outdoor living spaces are essential to enjoying the outdoors during the summer months, and you might want to beautify them by adding potted flowers and herbs. Water these plants as regularly as you would with the rest of your landscape. Then put mulch into the pots to help them retain moisture, and remember to put the pots in shady spots so that they aren’t always under the hot sun all day long.

Choose a Different Irrigation System

You could also consider using a drip irrigation system. It’s surprisingly easy to use one of these systems because you can connect them to a timer and a hose bib. This means that your lawn and landscape will be watered even if you plan on going out of town for a few days.
