Home Renovation Projects in Crofton

Fall is the ideal time to catch up on all those renovation projects you’ve been slacking on.

Fall is the ideal time to catch up on all those renovation projects you’ve been slacking on. Not only do the shorter daylight hours mean there’s more time for indoor tasks, but the decreasing temperatures and risks of winter freezes mean that you shouldn’t wait too long.

Check Insulation

One of the first things you should do in fall is check, clean, and replace or repair any cracked, gapping, or missing insulation on doors, windows, and garages. Not only does this insulation help keep any critters from sneaking into your home, but it keeps the cold out as well. Making sure that your weather stripping and insulation is intact can help you save on your energy bills all winter long.

Clean Your Gutters

When your gutters have filled up with leaves and debris from nearby trees, it’s time to give them a good cleaning. When gutters are full, it can cause severe water damage to your home and foundation.

Update Your Gardens

While it may be an outdoor task, fall is the time to mulch your garden and plant any bulbs for spring. Not only will this help insulate your perennials, but it will help keep any hungry animals away from them and decrease the amount of work you’ll have come spring.

Replace Missing Shingles

Before the worst of the rain, ice, and snow hit, it’s time to take a good hard look at your roof. If there are any missing shingles, it’s best to replace them soon. Not only are they not pretty to look at, but missing and broken shingles can quickly become the source of leaks and cause severe damage to your home.

Prep Your Fireplace

If you have a wood burning fireplace, you must clean it at least annually. Over time, a build-up of residue within the chimney can create a grave risk and result in a chimney fire. Additionally, ensuring that the entire system is clean and in working order will prevent any issues of smoke filling your home. If you have a gas or electric fireplace, a yearly inspection is still recommended to ensure there no repairs are needed.
