Settling Into Your New Home in Anne Arundel County

Way to go! After several weeks, months, or even years, you’ve finally found the new home you’ve been looking for all this time in Anne Arundel County. But now that all the packing and moving is done, it’s time to unpack and settle in. Here’s how to do that and make the transition much easier.

Go Over Safety Features

Your new home in Anne Arundel County will have several safety features to make it more secure. On the first day you move in, you should spend some time familiarizing yourself with these safety features. For example, there could be an electronic safety system monitoring your home that your previous residence didn’t have. Check to make sure that the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have the batteries they need and that all the fire extinguishers are fully charged and ready to use in case you should need them. You should also figure out where the shut-off switches for utilities such as power and water are located, so you know where to look when you need to turn them off during an emergency situation.

Clean

Moving to a brand new home can be overwhelming. When you first get the keys and go inside, you should expect the interior to be clean and inviting for you. However, that’s not always the case. You might so busy getting all of your belongings into the new home that you forget to stop and clean. Be sure you know where your cleaning supplies are, and focus on cleaning three areas: the bathroom, bedroom, and kitchen. Once you’ve done that, you can prioritize any other tasks that still need to be addressed in these parts of the house.

Prioritize

It’s crucial that you set up the bedroom first. After all, you’ll be exhausted once it’s time for bed, and you will want to curl up and go to sleep. With that taken care of, you can start to add some essential items to your kitchen so you can prepare breakfast in the morning. After that, be sure to put up the shower curtain, hang up some bath towels, and put all your toiletries away in the bathroom.

Get to Know Your Neighbors

We understand that it can be hard to get along with your neighbors. But settling into your new Anne Arundel County home means meeting your neighbors. Find out what neighborhood events are happening – maybe a block party to celebrate the end of summer. You won’t know unless you start to find out!
